Very good Value for money!

Did quite a bit of research before buying a Blu-ray player - wanted something that did more than play B/ray - Internet video (esp iPlayer) & media streamer were two features high on the list. Whittled it down to the Sony or LG range, but went for this in the end & glad I did. Things that sold it were:-1. Built-in WIFI... some models (including Sony) had option of WiFi dongles... but they're expensive & take a slot2. DLNA functionality for home network media streaming3. 3D for the day when I can afford a 3D TV!4. Seems to have UK-specific functionaltiy like ITV/BBC players... something LG lacked5. Price... all this a a (on Amazon at least) price that beat polayers with similar functionalityI was expecting a lot & its did pretty well meet my epxectations! Connected easily to home network wirelessly (no problems with signal so far), updated its firmware, picked up my NAS storage drive automatically (& videos/pics), plays a good selection of Web videos, connects to my laptop (once Media player setup), and even plays DVDs/BRs with no problems so far. Looks good & does the job very well!I'm 'only' giving 4 stars because 5 stars to me means it has to be perfect, and this isn't quite pefect (what is!). Couple of minor niggles to me are:-a. Remote feels a bit cheapb. Some video formats (files on the networked drives) aren't recognised... doesn't like MKVs, and also certain AVIs (can't pinpoint what sort yet).c. My PCs can view device on network... but haven't found a way of playing discs on the PCs yet (picky I know).Overall... really impressed!

Really very good

It is a while since I bought a new DVD/Blueray player, I've always bought Sony and have been pretty impressed with the reliability. I may have paid a bit more, but have usually seen many years of good service.Whilst the S570 does not appear to be as robust as my old player, it is a good looking, piano black box with tiny controls on the front facia.Set up, once I had worked my way through the fairly slim instruction manual was very easy ... however, my player seemed to be shipped with German as the default language, so it took a few minutes to reset to English.The internet connection to my home wifi was very easy and having done that I registered at Sony (for enhanced features) ... still not sure what they are yet, but am sure that will come to light later.The next thing to do was check Network Updates ... there was a firmware update to do and that was downloaded and installed in minutes.The menu Items are pretty intuitive and you basically scroll across for settings, and down for content.The internet connection gives you access to a range of on-line service providers who will want to sell you pay per view access ... there is some free content and previews as well ... and iplayer and 5 on demand. I was a little disappointed that some of the other on-demand players were not available, but maybe more will joint later.Before I get to the Blue-ray side of things, the full screen picture quality of the streamed content from iPlayer and 5OD was excellent. There is also access to YouTube ... again quality is better than I expected, but if I was to use on a very regular basis I would find the mobile phone type multi-keystroke approach to typing in the search word would be a bit trying ... particularly if you were looking for something specific.The Blue0ray picture quality is excellent, and I have now tried it on both older SD and brand new HD televisions. There are a few clunks and whirrs on start up, or accessing additional content, but nothing to worry about. The one thing I did notice was that if you have a disk in whilst watching streamed content, the is a bit of a whirr/whine, so best to have the tray empty.All in all, I'm very satisfied with my purchase, the Amazon price is the best I found, and if you get in quick, Sony will refund the VAT. I have yet to try the 3D functions out, this was more a case of future-proofing my purchase.As for the in built wifi, I did at first consider the S370 and s470 but found that you had to pay some silly price for the wifi dongle ... this was by far the cheapest and sleekest option.

Ok, so having only bought cheapy £25 dvd players in the past, I thought it was about time that I splashed out a bit more for a decent player!I knew that I wanted wifi connectivity, bluray and internet streaming, and did loads of research into what player to get. This Sony seemed to tick all the boxes.All I can say is its an amazing at everything it does:Setup is easy (even though there isn't really much to setup)Bluray playback is stunning (To me it looks even better than the bluray playback on ps3)BBC iPlayer is fantastic, with access to HD streaming too.I haven't got a 3d tv, so cant test that.The only slight niggle was streaming films from my laptop. Setting up in Windows Media Player, the DVD player just says 'no playable file'. But using Nero Mediahome, it worked straight away. But that's probably more something to do with laptop setup than the dvd players' fault.So to sum up...Buy it! Im glad I did!
