Philips Blu Ray Player

I have been a DVD fan since their inception and before that a VCD fan, therefore I was looking for a player which played a mutitude of formats. I was not disappointed with various formats is plays. I have had the following formats playing in it:DVDBlu RayVideo CDSuper Video CDMusic CDMP3 (from mp3 player)Jpg (from Camera)DiVX (from dongle)The unit has a couple of USB slots which allow connection of various devices such as digial cameras, Mp3 players etc, however it is not universal so do not buy it in mind for this purpose. It also does not support NTFS format on portable devices and can crash the machine if you contect a device it can't find. I found this to may dismay when I plugged my portable hard disc into it and it crashed. If it does crash, just turn off and back on.The unit is slow and quite noisy on start-up but once it is up and running it is very quiet and does everything quickly.The remote control is a pleasing looking thing and fits well in the plam of the hand, however you need to point it directly at the machine in order for it to work; the fast forward and the chapter forward button are right next to each other and look similar, therefore I have accidently skipped a chapter many times. It just takes a bit more care to ensure you don't do this. There is a function called Anynet+ which allows me to use my samsung remote for the basic functions which is very handy, I have a samsung TV and it works with this.Power is turned on my a large buttton on the remote and if you pause what you are watching before you turn it off, the system remembers your place, handy if you are watching a boxset. Eject is controlled by holding in the stop button for a few seconds on the remote or on the front of the unit.Picture and sound quality are excellent as long as you invest in a good HDMI lead, which is not included in the sale price. I avoided a disaster here as my friend pre-warned me of this.A very good all round machine that I would recommend highly.

Broken already only brought it this year 2011

Brought it early 2011, now it has stopped working altogether, all disks come up with error message unknown disk. This would seem to be quite a common problem for this make from what I have read on the Internet. Would not recommend buying it even without this happening. It was very slow and took ages just to eject a disk.

As I have hundreds of VCDs, I was looking for a blueray player which can play these VCDs instead of having another player for VCDs. This is a great blueray player as it plays Blue-ray, DVD and VCD.The normal DVDs played by this blueray player has lot more clarity on my Full-HD, 60 inch plasma TV.I receommend this player.
