Does exactly what it says on the box

This media player is meant to attach to your TV and do two main jobs, and it does them well. You must supply your own HDMI cable and plug the box into a spare HDMI socket on your TV. Then use your TV's remote to switch its input to HDMI1, HDMI2, or wherever you have plugged the box in. When you first set up the unit, you allow it to join your home wireless network -- that is the only way the Philips box will attach to the Internet. Once on your network, you can watch Netflix and YouTube, and both of them, with their sound, arrive on your TV at excellent quality.Netflix looks just as it does on a computer screen, and the little Philips remote lets you choose your film or TV recording and play it. On my very average 6Mb/sec broadband connection, HD films play smoothly. Couldn't be better. If only Netflix had a larger and more desirable choice of films...ah well.YouTube looks quite different to the computer version, and takes a little getting used to. After selecting YouTube, I had to wait about a minute before being able to proceed. Videos are divided into categories (Sport/Entertainment/Music/etc) and you can browse them. They seem to be newest first. It is better to search, a clumsy business with the remote and an on-screen keyboard, but doable. Your search results appear as a new, temporary category which you can browse and play, and you seem to get whatever quality the YouTube video provides with no problems.The only extra job this box will do is play videos from a memory USB device which you plug into the USB port. Again, these worked well, after a wait of half a minute or so while the box detected photos and videos. It is fine for showing off your photos as a slide show, with a choice of fade effects, and played my home made videos easily. And that's it. No game-playing, iPad connection, apps, BBC iPlayer, 4oD or anything else you might hope a media streamer could do.The little unit is shiny black, shaped like a small wedge of cheese, and sits unobtrusively under the front edge of my TV. If you want Netflix and YouTube on your TV, the Philips media player will do it for you very well at a reasonable price.

READ BEFORE BUY: Fantastic for what is for: Wireless Netflix

As you can see by browsing the reviews, if you are looking for a good media player this is not what you need. But if you are looking for a good device to watch Netflix wirelessly on any room of your house and even take it with you to somebody else's house in order for the the kids to enjoy films while you enjoy a meal with friends or family, this is just the device you want. We are users of Netflix and bought it so we could make use of an old TV we had in the attic and we love it, it is so easy to use that my 6 yo daughter uses it on her own (the remote have a red Netflix button for direct viewing). AGAIN: As its name suggests, this thing is for watching Netflix. It also comes with a youtube player, but we have never used it.Note.-If you take it to somebody else's house, make sure they have got a wireless router with broadband. ;-)

Nicely packaged small box which fits in nicely with the rest of my tv setup. Connects to the tv via hdmi and also has a USB port. I connected it wirelessly and was up and running Netflix in a few minutes. It has a very small remote which can easily be mislaid and may not be very useful if you have quite large hands. Overall a good product at a fair price.
