Criterion label Blu-ray will not play!

I bought this player expecting to be able to play all my US Blu-ray discs and so it does except for Criterion Blu-rays which are the Rolls Royce of digital video discs. I then contacted Panasonic UK for a firmware update in case that was the problem but they denied that the BD75 could play anything but UK Blu-rays. So no firmware update from them! I contacted the Criterion label people who said they vwere sorry to learn of the trouble playing Criterion discs on my multi-region player! They said they do extensive testing on their discs, but their testing lab does not have a region-free Blu-ray player. Because these players are not certified by the Blu-ray Association, unfortunately they can't guarantee playback. When a player is modified to make it region-free, it compromises the player reliability. So be warned. Peter Mackriel

Does exactly what I wanted it for

I purchased this as more of a DVD player than a Blu-ray player given I have a lot of Region 1 dvds. Most Blu-rays are region free anyway.The player is smaller than I imagined but it looks very sleek.HDMI cable was included so this was good.Instructions for how to change region coding were also included but not needed as the player automatically detects the specific region of the discs.This avoids the hassle of having to select the appropriate code before watching a movie. This is another great feature.The remote is on the small side and the buttons are really clustered together.I've often hit the 'home' button when I wanted to press the 'OK' button. It can be very frustrating and will take me a little while to get used to it. (This is the primary reason I did not give the product 5 stars).The player itself only has a power button, eject button, play & stop buttons so if the remote breaks, your options are very limited.The player is quiet overall with only the odd disc noise here and there. Not enough to distract.It has a USB point for firmware updates if needed.I've had zero problems playing any discs from any region so I'm very happy with my purchase.
